This course is designed to provide students with an awareness of the 1926 Subpart M Fall Protection Standard and the technical education component of OSHA's competent person requirements. Students will learn to recognize existing and predictable hazards related to fall protection in construction and how to apply corrective measures.  Other topics include selection, proper use and inspection of fall protection equipment, fall clearance calculations, fall protection for tools and rescue considerations.

Learning Objectives: This workshop will help you select a competent person who has a solid background in all the various fall protection requirements, as well as reveal the OSHA and State requirements needed to find the correct person to act as a competent person.

This course is designed to provide students with an awareness of the 1926 Subpart P Excavation Standard and the technical education component of OSHA's competent person requirements.  Students will learn to recognize existing and predictable hazards in and around excavation sites and how to apply corrective measures. Other topics include soil mechanics and soil analysis, protective systems and job planning related to trench safety and the competent person responsibilities. 
CEU:
Learning Objectives: Given current OSHA and industry information regarding construction worksite illnesses, injuries, and/or fatalities, the student will be able to recognize hazards and best practices associated with excavations and trenching.
- Identify hazards associated with excavations and trenches, including the hazard that poses the greatest risk
- Identify the three main methods for protecting employees from cave-ins. 
- Identify three factors that pose a hazard to employees working in excavations, and at least one way to eliminate or reduce each hazard. 
- Review the role of a competent person at an excavation or trenching site.
